One of the most common reasons for visiting an orthopedic doctor is joint pain of one or the other type. The joint pain may be mono-articular or poly-articular depending upon the number of joints involved. The causes of joint pain may be inflammatory in origin. There can also be an injury resulting in the joint pain of that particular joint. Also as age advances osteoarthritis becomes by far the commonest cause of joint pain. Some blood dyscrasia like rheumatoid arthritis can also be the culprit with sero-positive tests.

Whatever the reason is joint pain results in restricted joint movement and hampered work compatibility. Even back ache is one of the types of joint pains between vertebrae, which is said to be second only to the pain related absenteeism from work, first being common cold. There are also other physiologic and pathologic reasons of joint pains. The doctor has to differentiate between various causes and then treat the condition accordingly.

Many people try home remedies for initial period for subsiding the pain and in some cases they are beneficial too. However if the pain persists for more days, one has to consult a good doctor in order to investigate for the cause and get treated by an expert. It is very much alarming that due to unhealthy eating habits, rampant work related stress and lack of exercise are leading to more and more joint pains even at younger ages. Everyone has to take care of their joints, because these are the basic body structures that help us carry ourselves everywhere. They have to remain mobile, isn’t it?
